A Historic Estate in the Heart of Quebec City

The Venue

There is something about Domaine Cataraqui that immediately makes you feel like you have left the city, even though you are right in the heart of Sillery.

Surrounded by beautiful gardens, mature trees and views over the St. Lawrence River, the property feels private, romantic and almost like a little escape to the countryside. The English-style villa gives the venue so much character, while the gardens and outdoor spaces make it feel completely different from a traditional reception venue.

For couples looking for a wedding venue in Quebec City that feels elegant, historic and surrounded by nature, Domaine Cataraqui is pretty special.

What Makes a Wedding at Domaine Cataraqui So Special

Imagine an outdoor ceremony surrounded by greenery, cocktails in the gardens, portraits around the villa and a reception that carries into the evening.

It is the kind of venue where you really don't need to overdo anything. The architecture, gardens and history already give you so much to work with. Florals, candlelight and thoughtful details can simply complement what is already there rather than completely transforming the space.

And from a photography perspective, that is exactly what I love. There are so many different textures, backgrounds and pockets of light that your gallery can have a lot of variety while still feeling cohesive.

The gardens

This might be my favorite part. The historic gardens, greenery and mature trees create so many beautiful little spaces for portraits without ever having to leave the property.

The villa

The architecture brings a completely different feeling to the day. It has that old-world character that photographs beautifully and gives your wedding a sense of place and history.

The view

The estate sits above the St. Lawrence River, giving you beautiful views while still feeling incredibly private and tucked away from the city.

Everything in one place

You can create an entire wedding experience around the property, moving naturally between the villa, gardens, courtyard and reception spaces. It makes the day feel much more relaxed and gives your guests the chance to actually enjoy the estate.

Domaine Cataraqui has been part of Quebec City's landscape since the 1800s. The current villa was built in 1851 and designed by architect Edward Staveley, with the property evolving over generations through its different owners.

Why I Love Photographing Here

Domaine Cataraqui has everything I naturally gravitate toward as a photographer. History, architecture, gardens, beautiful light and a setting that already has its own personality.

My approach is very documentary, with an editorial eye when the moment calls for it.

A venue like this gives me the freedom to capture the day as it naturally unfolds while also creating portraits that feel intentional, timeless and connected to the surroundings.

If you are planning a wedding at Domaine Cataraqui in Quebec City and this sounds like the kind of experience you are looking for, I would love to hear what you have planned.

Domaine Cataraqui already carries nearly two centuries of stories.

Your wedding simply becomes part of the next one.
